Mask of Hunger

An old mask carved from darkened bone and bound with straps that seem to reach for the wearer’s face on their own. Its empty eye sockets are never truly empty — deep within them something stirs, searching for the warmth of other life. They say the mask does not satisfy hunger, but merely changes its form: instead of food, it demands the strength of other creatures. When the bearer’s body weakens, the mask awakens, sinking invisible veins into those nearby and draining life from them, as if trying to feed for two.
